The Liberia Standards Authority (LISA) has warned motorists, and the general public against purchasing gasoline and diesel from stations whose pumps and storage tanks do not carry official LISA verification stickers.

The warning was issued on Tuesday, October 6, during a press briefing in Monrovia.

LISA meanwhile, intensified efforts to ensure compliance with national standards within the petroleum sector.

LISA Deputy Director General for Technical Services, Koakum Emmanuel Myers, said consumers, who purchased petroleum products from unverified stations could be exposed to financial losses, particularly where fuel pumps have not been independently tested for accuracy.

Myers: “The official LISA sticker is an indication that a fuel station’s dispensing pumps, and storage facilities have undergone inspection, testing and the standards authority verification.”

He said, without the required certification, consumers have limited assurance that the quantity of fuel displayed on a pump is the actual amount being delivered for the money paid.

“If anyone purchases petroleum products at a station without the official LISA sticker, they are doing so at their own risk.”

Myers placed responsibility on consumers to verify the certification status of fuel stations before making purchases.

He said, LISA ongoing inspection campaign is to protect consumers from possible unfair commercial practices, promote accurate measurements, and strengthen accountability among petroleum dealers.

The agency also urged fuel vendors to ensure that their facilities and equipment remain compliant with established standards.

The warning comes amid concerns over consumer protection, and the need for stronger monitoring of petroleum market.

LISA has by that, encouraged motorists nationwide to check for the official verification seal on fuel pumps, and tanks before purchasing petroleum products to avoid stations that cannot demonstrate compliance.
