The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) has officially launched a Visa on Arrival program, a move aimed at facilitating easier entry into the country for business investors, tourists and Liberians in the diaspora.

Acting LIS Commissioner Elijah F. Rufus spoke to journalists during a press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

He disclosed that while the program was introduced a month ago, technical challenges delayed its full implementation. However, those issues have now been resolved, paving the way for its nationwide rollout.

“For years, travelers to Liberia have faced difficulties obtaining visas due to the country’s limited diplomatic missions worldwide,” Rufus stated.

“The government of Liberia decided to launch this project so that people can easily access visas upon arrival, rather than struggling with embassy-related delays.”

The Visa on Arrival service is currently available for travelers arriving at Roberts International Airport (RIA).

However, the government plans to extend the service to key border points, including seaports and land crossings, in the coming months.

Rufus reassured the public that the initiative aligns with national security interests and international travel standards.

“This program is in the interest of the Liberian government, our security agencies, and our international partners,” he emphasized.
