The People’s Republic of China, through its Embassy in Monrovia, has assured Liberian officials and members of the diplomatic corps that 2026 represents a new chapter of hope for China–Liberia relations.
The Embassy’s statement was highlighted by ongoing and completed landmark development projects in the country.
Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, made the assurance during the Chinese New Year Reception held on February 13, 2026, in Monrovia.
Amb. Yin cited the construction of two modern overhead bridges, and the newly completed, state-of-the-art Liberia broadcasting system radio station as clear evidence of the deepening bilateral partnership.
The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is China’s oldest and most culturally significant traditional celebration, symbolizing renewal, unity and hope. It is observed annually with family reunions and cultural activities, reflecting the Chinese people’s aspirations for peace, happiness, and prosperity amid a world marked by uncertainty.
The reception was attended by Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, Chinese investors, members of the diplomatic community and Chinese scholars in Liberia.
Amb. Yin disclosed that 2026 marked the beginning of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, during which China will continue to pursue high-quality development, expand high-standard opening-up, and advance common prosperity for its people.
According to him, China remains committed to fostering stronger cooperation among Global South countries and injecting renewed momentum into global openness and collaboration.
“We will work more actively to build a community with a shared future for mankind. This will bring great opportunities for the world. The year 2026 marks new hope for China–Liberia relations,” Amb. Yin stated.
He added that China will continue to serve as an engine of global economic growth, and act as a catalyst for Africa’s development and revitalization.
Within this context, China will fully implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and strengthen alignment between China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, with the goal to deliver tangible benefits and elevating the China/Liberia strategic partnership to new heights.
While reflecting on developments over the past year, Amb. Yin praised Chinese citizens in Liberia for their diligence, unity, and contributions across various sectors.
He noted that their efforts have strengthened practical cooperation, promoted people-to-people exchanges and demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility and patriotism.
He further assured that the Chinese Embassy will continue to uphold the principle of “people-centered diplomacy,” safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese nationals in Liberia, and encourage them to respect local laws, prioritize safety, and contribute positively to Liberian society.
Amb. Yin recalled how 2026, has been designated the China–Africa Year of People-To-People Exchanges, an initiative jointly agreed upon by Xi Jinping and African leaders during the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
He recalled that during the recent visit of Wang Yi to Africa, the initiative was officially launched, with President Xi sending a congratulatory message to the opening ceremony.
According Yin, more than 600 people-to-people exchange activities, will be held in all parts of China and Africa throughout the year, reinforcing the social and cultural foundation of China–Africa relations. He emphasized tha
with more than 2.8 billion people across China and Africa working together, the future of bilateral and multilateral cooperation remains bright.
Amb. Yin expressed optimism that Liberia and China will use the year’s activities to further strengthen friendship between their peoples and deepen the enduring bond between the two nations.
