The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has made a major breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking, confiscating 234 kilograms of cocaine valued at $126,846 USD at Bo Waterside, Grand Cape Mount County. The seizure took place on February 8, 2025, at 10am and led to the arrest of David Dioumessy, a 44-year-old Nigerian national residing in Conakry, Guinea. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the LDEA headquarters in Monrovia, Director General Anthony Souh, disclosed that Dioumessy, who was traveling with a Guinean-issued ECOWAS passport (No. 001070389), was intercepted while attempting to evade a security search at a warehouse. Upon investigation, authorities discovered the illicit drugs concealed in his suitcase. The street value of the seized cocaine amounts to 24,734,970 Liberian Dollars (LRD). The suspect is currently in LDEA custody as further investigations continue. Addressing journalists over the weekend in Monrovia, Director General Souh emphasized the need for collaborative efforts in combating drug abuse and trafficking in Liberia. “Fighting drug trafficking should not only be the responsibility of law enforcement; it requires the involvement of community leaders, youth groups, women’s organizations, landlords and the media,” Souh stated. He urged landlords to screen tenants carefully to prevent drug dealers from using their properties as distribution hubs. “This is a national concern that requires every Liberian’s involvement,” he stressed. “If we can control drug distribution, we can significantly reduce drug use in Liberia Director Souh reassured the public of the LDEA’s dedication to eradicating drug-related crimes.  He noted that the agency, with its experience and determination, will intensify its operations to dismantle drug networks across the country. He also warned young people to steer clear of drugs, reminding them that they are the future leaders of Liberia. “The government, under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, is taking the fight against drug abuse seriously,” he declared.  “This is not a joke. The President has declared drugs an enemy of the state, and we are committed to protecting our children. Director Souh called on all Liberians to join the LDEA’s efforts in making Liberia a drug-free nation.  He encouraged the public to report any suspicious drug activities, assuring that all information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. “We cannot win this fight alone,” “A drug-free Liberia is possible, but it requires collective action from every citizen.”
