LAA, Koon To Improve RIA
The Management of the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA), has lauded House Speaker Richard N. Koon for his one-day working visit to the Roberts International Airport (RIA).
The visit has been described as ” a major step to address critical operational challenges facing Liberia’s main gateway.”
In a statement released following the visit, the LAA expressed profound appreciation to Speaker Koon for taking time off his busy legislative schedule to tour facilities at the RIA. The Authority noted that Koon’s engagement was crucial to identify existing challenges, and explor practical solutions through government intervention.
The Authority Board chair, Massaquoi M. Kamara, told reporters shortly after the tour that LAA, hailed Speaker Koon presence as a morale booster, and a strong indication of legislative support for ongoing airport reforms.
“The Speaker visit was a part of our ongoing engagements with the Legislature to highlight some of the operational and infrastructural challenges at the airport,” Kamara stated.
“His commitment gives us hope that meaningful support is on the way.”
Speaker Koon underscored the strategic importance of investing in Liberia’s principal international airport.
He said improving the RIA infrastructure and operations would not only enhance the country image, but also attracts more airlines and investors.
“RIA is Liberia’s front door,” Speaker Koon said, adding: “Investing here means investing in the country economy. I will work with my colleagues in the to ensure adequate budgetary support to improve the Airport. ”
The Speaker visit brought together key stakeholders from the aviation sector, including the Director General of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, Julius Dennis; the LAA Deputy Managing Director for Operations, Egon Kuiah; and the Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services, Jonathan C. Anders.
The LAA reaffirmed its commitment to work collaboratively with the government and development partners to ensure that the RIA meets international standards, and continues to serve as a safe and welcoming gateway to Liberia.
