A Liberian family based in the United States has dedicated the US$8,000 valued children school they built in Peter Kollie Town, Jorquelleh District Two, Bong County.

The development is to improve access to education for children in underserved communities.

Mr. and Mrs. George Kollie, together with members of the Kollie family, funded the construction, and furnished the school, which is expected to provide free education.

The initiative seeks to address educational challenges faced by children who have struggled to attend school, including those who previously traveled long distances to access classroom facilities.

Beyond constructing the school, the family has pledged to pay teachers’ salaries, and collaborate with community residents to provide meals for students.

The commitment is to sustain the institution, and support children throughout their learning experience.

As part of the initiative, the family distributed educational materials, including bookbags, exercise books, pencils, and erasers, to approximately 60 children.

The provision is to ease some of the financial burden on parents, and help students begin their education with essential learning materials.

The family representative, Shadrach Saturday Kollie, said the project was inspired by appeals from residents during a visit then in the town.

The appeals reportedly highlighted the need for improved educational opportunities, prompting the family to establish a school that will bring learning closer to children.

In addition to the educational project, the Kollie family donated a prayer house to Grace Baptist Church in Gbarnga to support Christian worship and evangelism.

The donation is to strengthen the church’s religious activities, and provide additional space for worship and community engagement.
