Former Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee, in a statement released on Monday, demanded that the government investigate and prosecute him for the accusations that have plagued him during the George Weah administration.  He challenged President Joseph Boakai’s government to take action. Koijee described Boakai’s administration as a “charade,” accusing it of protecting criminals, using justice to target political opponents, and allowing corruption to thrive. He criticized the government for not bringing any legitimate charges against him, while alleged criminals remain free. He labeled Liberia a “haven for crime and cover-ups” under President Boakai’s leadership. The former Mayor reflected on the accusations he faced during his tenure as mayor under President Weah, including claims of involvement in murders and disappearances, which led to U.S. sanctions. Koijee denies these accusations and says they were spread by those now in power under Boakai, yet no evidence has been presented against him. The CDC Secretary General further stated that Liberia has descended into lawlessness, with those who accused him of crimes now in positions of power. He pointed to the unresolved murder of Charloe Musu, where the only suspect arrested, former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott, was released and given a government position, while the real killer remains free. He also accused the Liberia National Police (LNP) of turning into a state-sponsored gang responsible for human rights abuses, including the deaths of civilians in Voinjama and Monrovia, with no accountability or justice. He claimed that these are just a few examples of the 22 human rights violations reported in the first year of Boakai’s rule, which have gone unpunished. Koijee criticized the government as “a government of lies and hypocrisy,” stating that his accusers have now turned a blind loyalist.
