The one mile-long ‘monkey’ bridge over the Kpanwen Creek in the New Life Community of Johnsonville is nearing collapse.

For this reason, residents are backing their community leaderships to crave government’s intervention before the situation gets too late, “since the raining season was fast approaching.”

The wooden bridge, which connects Block ‘B’ with Bassa Town in the enclave of Chicken Soup factory has outlived it lifespan.

Mary B. Jallah, the block chairperson has meanwhile joined other residents to launch an L$100 appeal to anyone crossing over the bridge for immediate repair or else the situation will end up in disaster.

Madam Jallah’s appeal comes in the wake of the loosening hardships for residents should the bridge “totally collapsed.”

According her, a representative contestant, identified as Donyen Nimely, alias, Father Donyn constructed the bridge with several pieces of chain-saw woods in 2017 spending his own money.

She said, “The man reinforced the footings of the bridge during the 2023 general and presidential elections, but again lost the election to Sekou Kanneh, the sitting representative.

“Since Donyen constructed the bridge, it has become the main source for free movement of goods and services benefiting the thousands of residents in the surrounding neighbourhoods,” recalled Madam Jallah.

She says, while waiting for government expected intervention, anyone can donate at least L$100 for the purchase of few pieces of woods, “so that can begin doing some repair works on our own.”
