Authorities of the Liberia National Police (LNP) in Grand Kru County, have promised to institute legal action against a suspect, who “assaulted” their commander.

The suspect has been charged with “reckless driving, thereby putting residents’ lives at risk.

The county LNP detachment said, they are pursuing legal action following a reported assault on their operations commander during a late-night incident at Wakpaken Junction.

Police described the incident as a “serious attack on law enforcement authority” that unfolded around 10: p.m. when Superintendent Truman David Barclay, Jr. reportedly confronted a motorist suspected of “reckless driving.”

According to the LNP, the driver of a white vehicle, believed to be associated with a LoneStar Cell MTN worker, was allegedly operating the vehicle in a manner that endangered pedestrians’ lives.

“The driver was putting lives at risk. When the OPS intervened to prevent possible harm to residents, he exhibited violent action,” a police source stated.

Police alleged that the suspect struck Supt. Barclay with the vehicle’s door, and followed up with a punch to the stomach during the confrontation that ensued.

Officers responded to the scene and requested the suspect to accompany them for questioning.

However, authorities say the individual refused and left the area, abandoning the vehicle.

The situation escalated further during the impoundment process, when a mechanic allegedly obstructed police action, and was subsequently arrested.

Police confirmed that the vehicle’s battery was removed to facilitate the impoundment.

In an attempt to intimidate officers, the suspect reportedly returned to the station around 2: a.m. with a group of “supporters.” The group allegedly demanded the release of the mechanic, and issued threats against the police facility.

The cunty deputy police commander Harry Blackie intervened.

Blackie assured the aggrieved party that due process would be followed. He urged them to return peacefully in the morning.

The crowd later dispersed without further confrontation.

The LNP stressed that investigations are ongoing, but warned that anyone found obstructing justice or assaulting a peaceful officer will face the full weight of the law.

“We remain committed to protect lives and maintain public order,” police authorities assured.
