A prominent Grebo community leader in Grand Gedeh County, has been found dead with a cut to his neck after being missing on Tuesday, October 20.

The situation has raised suspicions of “foul play” with fingers pointed at ritualistic killers.

The late Sam Geekor, headed the Grebo citizens residing in Kanneh Clan. His corpse was discovered near a small stream opposite his cassava farm at about 10 a.m. on Friday, October 23, following a vigorous search the locals had mounted.

His widow, Alemia Geekor, said that her husband left home at about 6:30 a.m. to harvest cassava for the family, but did not return until locals search team discovered his remains.

The couple had planned to visit their rice farm later that day when the unexpected happened.

A search by his wife and brother-in-law led them to the cassava farm, where they found his bag, but could not locate him. His body was discovered near the stream three days after he went missing.

The Liberia National Police detachment in Grand Gedeh County was notified.

Shortly after that, a 15-member coroner jury reportedly found a cut mark on the left side of Geekor’s neck.

The reported discovery of the suspected mark raised questions about the circumstances of his death.

The cause of death remains unclear, and it was not immediately known whether police had identified any suspects, or made arrests.

Investigation continues.
