A 13-year-old girl has been raped, reportedly by her biological father, Mohammed Sheriff.
Shortly after the sexual encounter, Sheriff fled to neighboring Sierra Leone. He was subsequently arrested by the sierra Leonean authorities, and brought back to Liberia; handed over to the police for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the victim has sought justice after the sexual assault.
The incident occurred in Damballa Town, Electoral District #1, Porkpa District, Grand Cape Mount County.
The affairs occurred between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, according to information gathered.
The child told relatives, and community leaders that she was sleeping on the same bed with her father when she suddenly felt someone on top of her. She later realized that the “individual doing the thing to me was my father.” “He was completely undressed (nude) at the time he was over me.”
Following the report, the girl informed her elder sister, who subsequently brought the matter to the attention of community leaders.
Suspect Flees Community
The accused (perpetrator) fled Damballa Town shortly after he ‘finished his daughter’ and crossed into neighboring Sierra Leone before authorities apprehended him.
Sheriff is said to be a Sierra Leonean national, but has resided in Damballa Town for several decades.
He is also said to have served as a volunteer security guard at the Damballa Health Center.
Child Receives Medical Attention
Following the report, the survival was taken to the Damballa Health Center, where she examined, confirmed and treated.
The case has since been reported to officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) Women and Children Protection Section assigned to the Tienii Police Station in Tewor District.
The allegation remains subject to investigation, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
