The Institut Européen de Coopération et de Développement (IECD) has concluded a three-day Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop in Gbarnga, Bong County.
The exercise addressed gender stereotypes, and promote inclusive teaching practices within the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector.
The training, held from Tuesday, October 6, to Thursday, October 8, at IECD office in Gbarnga, brought together more than 15 participants from vocational education institutions.
The workshop focused on helping TVET trainers identify, and challenge gender stereotypes that can limit educational participation, skills development, and career opportunities for both women and men.
At the close of the training, IECD Gender Specialist Jennie Barclay said, the organization work with TVET institutions through the STAVE Project to strengthen vocational education, and promote gender-inclusive learning environments.
The training was designed to equip trainers with practical knowledge to integrate gender considerations into their teaching methods and interactions with students.
The initiative, titled: “Training of Trainers on Integrating Gender into Pedagogical Practices,” encouraged participants to ensure that women have equal voices with men, and opportunities in vocational education and the workplaces.
Participants were also encouraged to challenge traditional beliefs that associate certain professions, and vocational skills with a particular gender.
The initiative is supported by the French Development Agency (AFD), and the Government of Liberia, with IECD implementing activities to strengthen inclusive vocational education.
Barclay meanwhile, encouraged young Liberians to take advantage of vocational education opportunities, including programs offered through the LOIC Gbarnga Satellite, as a pathway to acquire practical skills, and improve their livelihoods.
