Health Ministry Denies Dr. Kpoto’s Suspension
The Ministry of Health has issued a strong condemnation of what it called- misleading media reports alleging that Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto, Minister of Health, was among the officials suspended by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for failing to declare their assets. In a press statement released in Monrovia, the ministry categorically refuted these claims, labeling them as “entirely false, irresponsible, and deceptive.” The Ministry clarified that Dr. Kpoto had fully complied with the statutory requirements, submitting her Declaration of Income, Assets, and Liabilities to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) on August 5, 2024. This submission, according to the Ministry, has been officially acknowledged and securely stored within the LACC’s Assets Declaration & Verification Unit. “The Ministry strongly denounces the reckless dissemination of misinformation,” the statement said. “Sensationalized and unverified reporting not only misleads the public but also undermines trust in democratic institutions and governance.” The Ministry further emphasized its commitment to transparency, integrity, and the rule of law. It urged media practitioners to exercise responsibility by fact-checking and verifying information before publication to prevent the distortion of reality. The press release comes on the heels of President Boakai’s recent decision to suspend over 450 government officials for their failure to declare assets within the stipulated deadline. The suspended individuals will serve one-month suspensions without pay. However, the Ministry of Health stressed that Dr. Kpoto was not among those affected. The Ministry reiterated that Dr. Kpoto remains dedicated to her role in advancing the country’s healthcare system and will continue to support the government’s efforts to uphold ethical standards and accountability.
