A prominent citizen of Bong County has called on the Liberian government to immediately investigate the operations of Jungle Energy Power (JEP), citing growing concerns over public safety and the protection of lives and property in Gbarnga and surrounding communities.

Mr. Lawrence Y. Plator made the appeal amid increasing worries among residents about the impact of the company’s activities, stressing that urgent action is needed to prevent potential tragedies and ensure that communities are adequately protected from any risks associated with the company’s operations.

According to him, government institutions responsible for regulating the energy sector must take proactive measures to address concerns being raised by citizens. He specifically called on the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) and other relevant agencies to conduct a thorough assessment of JEP’s operations and ensure full compliance with national safety regulations.

“The government must act swiftly to prevent additional loss of life and further destruction of homes and businesses,” Plator said. “The safety and well-being of citizens should be a priority, and every necessary step must be taken to address these concerns.”

He noted that many residents have expressed fears about the potential dangers associated with the company’s activities and are looking to authorities for reassurance and protection. While he did not identify specific incidents that prompted his concerns, Plator maintained that the situation warrants immediate government attention.

Mr. Plotor emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency in the energy sector, urging authorities to ensure that all operations are conducted in accordance with established safety standards and regulations.

He further called on local government officials, community leaders, and civil society organizations to work together in addressing the matter before more lives and properties are placed at risk.

Plator said collaboration between the government, the company, and affected communities would be essential in finding lasting solutions and restoring public confidence.

As concerns continue to circulate within Gbarnga and neighboring communities, residents are hoping that the government will respond promptly by investigating the situation and implementing measures aimed at safeguarding lives, protecting property, and ensuring that all energy-related operations meet the highest safety standards.
