Gov’t Breaks Ground For ‘New’ Health Facility

Government has broken ground to construct a headquarters for the Bong County Health Team.

The project valued at more than US$700,000, will be fully financed by the Ministry of Health.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Friday, July 31, in Melekie Town, Jorquelleh District #3, brought together senior officials of the Ministry of Health, county authorities, healthcare workers and residents, marking a significant investment in the future of healthcare delivery in the county.

In the project overview, Bong County Health Officer, Dr. Daanue Paye Zwuogbae, disclosed how the new state-of-the-art facility will serve as the permanent headquarters of the County Health Team, allowing the institution to relocate from its current offices on the Phebe Compound to a larger, and purpose-built complex capable of accommodating its expanding workforce.

Dr. Zwuogbae explained how the existing office space has become inadequate to effectively support the growing responsibilities of the County Health Team.

He said, the construction of a permanent headquarters will improve administrative coordination, planning, and operational efficiency, ultimately enhancing healthcare service delivery in the county.

Dr. Zwuogbae acknowledged the contributions of former Bong County Health Officers, Dr. Gorbee Gabriel Logan, who secured the land for the project, and Dr. Jefferson Sibley, who led the property’s re-survey, laying the foundation for the construction.

Bong County Administrative Officer, D. Sam Baryougah Elliott, Sr. welcomed the project, and pledged full cooperation throughout its implementation.

Elliot urged the contractor to execute the work with professionalism, transparency, and accountability to ensure value for public investment.

Deputy Health Minister for Administration, Madam Martha C. T. Morris, announced how government is investing over US$700,000 in the project.

Madam Morris described the investment as “strategic in the healthcare system, and the welfare of health professionals.”

Construction has been awarded to Eco Lux Construction, and Homes Remodeling Incorporated.

Upon completion, the facility will provide a modern working environment for health personnel, strengthen the management of healthcare programs, and improve the coordination of medical services, reinforcing government’s commitment to build a stronger, and more resilient public health system.
