The Technical Manager for Community Forestry Department at the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), Weedor H. Gray, has encouraged staffers of the entity to take recent five-day Capacity Building Training Workshop held in Buchanan serious.  Madam Gray admonished the participants to attach value to the training because it is very essential for the growth of the institution.  The training brought together regional and central foresters from different counties. She told participants that at the end of the training, management would expect better results from them.  Madam Gray also appreciated the Workshop Tenure Facility for supporting the training to build the capacity of FDA staff from December 16-20, 2024. For her part, the Deputy Managing Director for Community, Conservation and Carbon, Nora G. Bowier, appreciated the donor partners, specifically the Tenure Facility, noting that the FDA manages the Liberian forest sustainably for the benefit of the economy for present generation and reserve some for future generations. “The new job is big and the FDA is part of it. So, the aspect of managing resources is the role of the FDA,” she noted. When the partners engaged her regarding the capacity-building training, Madam Bowier said the Technical Manager for Community Forestry Department should know the need for the department and identify training gaps and the issuance of equipment to be used for staffers in the field.  Madam Bowier further encouraged the staff to improve their productivity in the field after the training in the next six months.  She acknowledged that there are challenges but assured, “We can work together to overcome these challenges, hoping that those fifty-seven communities’ forests improve upon what they have been diong in the past and now.” The head of planning and programs of the Community Forestry Department, Steven H. Freeman, said the department receives new intern staff and old staff based on needs, emphasizing   an obligation for the department to have training for its staffers.   He said the training was not anything new, but the same old thing that has been done day- by- day. However, he said the training enhances the capacity of participants, most especially new staff to get some in-depth of the department in the forest activities. According to him, the training aims at benefiting FDA staffers in the Community Forestry Department, not the donors who are sponsoring it.  “So, staff must take the training seriously,” Mr. Freeman admonished his colleagues in the forestry sectors. Meanwhile, facilitators of the training workshop were Mr. Franklin Siakor, Mr. Darius Barrolle, and Mr. Daniel B. Wehyee who expounded on diverse topics.  Mr. Barrolle drilled participants on the importance of communication, internal and external communication in the workplace and outside of the institution, as well as how to use email, WhatsApp, Facebook, and other social media platforms.

He also spoke on building capacity for carbon management and the processes that follow. The second facilitator, Siakor, discussed the nine steps in attaining community forest status and organizing community forest governance entities and all the processes that follow. For his part, Mr. Wehyee is the Coordinator on Land Governance from the Sustainable Development Institute (SDI),  discussed issues surrounding land formation and the processes to follow.
