A donated ambulance in Grand Kru County has remained out of service, leaving residents without the emergency medical transportation they were promised.

More than six months after District #1 Representative Nathaniel Bahway donated the ambulance, the vehicle is yet to function.

The County Health Officer, Dr. Craig on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, disclosed that the ambulance has not been deployed, “because it lacks essential medical equipment needed for emergency operations.”

Dr. Craig: “Items such as a ventilator, patient stretcher, first aid kits as well as oxygen support equipment, have not been provided.”

The situation, he said, has made it unsafe to transport patients via the faulty donated ambulance.

“An ambulance is not just a vehicle. It is a mobile emergency unit that must be properly equipped to support patients on their way to treatment.”

He warned that putting the ambulance into service without the necessary equipment could expose patients to greater danger rather than improve their chances of survival during emergencies.

The disclosure has raised concerns among residents, who had hoped the donation would strengthen emergency healthcare delivery in the county.

Instead, the vehicle remains parked while patients continue to face difficulties accessing urgent medical transportation.

While acknowledging Representative Bahway’s contribution, health authorities say, the focus must now shift to ensuring the ambulance is fully equipped and operational so that citizens can benefit from the investment.

The situation highlights a challenge in public service delivery: donations alone are not enough if they cannot be effectively utilized. For many residents, the unanswered question remains why an ambulance intended to save lives has spent more than six months sitting none-functional.

Health officials have called for urgent action to equip the ambulance, and place it into active service.
