The Political Leader and Standard Bearer of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Alexander Benedict Cummings, on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, undertook a robust one-day working visit to Kakata, Margibi County, where he held a series of high-impact engagements with citizens, community leaders, and key stakeholder groups. The visit, which drew enthusiastic crowds across the city, was part of the ANC’s sustained national outreach to listen to Liberians and present a credible alternative for national transformation and accountable leadership.

Accompanied by some executives of the ANC, Mr. Cummings commenced his tour with a welcome engagement with the United Congress Drivers Transport Union (UCDTU) of Kakata, followed by a strategic meeting with the Federation of Road Transport Union of Liberia (FRTUL) Margibi Chapter. During both engagements, the ANC Standard Bearer listened to the plight of drivers and transport operators who lamented the high cost of petroleum and lack of government support for the transport sector, which remains a backbone of Liberia’s informal economy. Mr. Cummings assured them of the ANC’s plan to prioritize reduction in the cost associated with doing business, and restore dignity to the transport profession.

A major highlight of the tour was Mr. Cummings’ appearance on Classic FM 93.9, where he delivered a blunt assessment of the current state of the nation under the Unity Party (UP) Government. Mr. Cummings stated that the UP administration has woefully failed to tackle the core challenges confronting Liberians. He pointed to a declining economy marked by rising hardship and inflation, unprecedented unemployment particularly among youth, rampant corruption with no accountability, the alarming proliferation of illegal drugs destroying a generation, as well as a dangerous pattern of selective justice and the systematic undermining of the Judiciary and the rule of law. He said Liberia needs serious, competent, and honest leadership to reverse the decline.

Mr. Cummings clarified that the recent “Joint Communique” signed by five (5) opposition political parties of Liberia, including the ANC, CDC, MOVEE, MPC and ULDP, is a cooperation with the intent of speaking as one voice and working as one group against the vices and bag governance performance of the UP Government. He intimated that the cooperation is not a collaboration or alliance for the parties to choose an elections ticket for 2029, but to engage the government on behalf of the Liberian People.

From the radio station, Mr. Cummings moved to the Kakata Central Market for a warm Meet and Greet with market women. The market women spoke passionately about the lack of capital, poor storage facilities, and low sales due to extreme hardship in the country, largely caused by lack of access to finance. Mr. Cummings also held a broad-based meeting with the leaderships of Forty-Two (42) Communities in Kakata, as well as separate consultations with the Christian Ministers Association and the Muslim Community in Margibi. The community and faith leaders called for greater inclusion, support for education and health services, and leadership that unites rather than divides the country along religious and ethnic lines.

Mr. Cummings then appeared at the famous Vai Town Intellectual Center, where he engaged in a frank and interactive dialogue with youth, students, and intellectuals on national issues, offering practical solutions anchored in job creation, quality education, and strengthening the rule of law. He later paid a courtesy visit to Margibi County District #4 Representative, Hon. Emmanuel Yarh, where both leaders held cordial discussions on the development challenges facing Margibi County and the need for collaborative leadership to advance the interests of the people.

Mr. Cummings concluded his one-day Kakata tour with a brief strategic meeting with the ANC County Leadership of Margibi County, commending them for their commitment and resilience. He charged them to remain focused on grassroots mobilization and to carry the message of hope and real change to every corner of Margibi. Mr. Cummings thanked the people of Kakata for the exceptional reception and reaffirmed that the ANC remains the only credible alternative capable of rescuing Liberia from economic collapse, lawlessness, and poor governance.

Cummings ‘Bus Stop’ @ 2029

By Godgift Harris

The opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC) Political Leader, Alexander B. Cummings, has set 2029 as his political bus stop, whether win or lose the presidential bid.

Cummings said, the 2029 election will be his final attempt to become a president.

He ruled out a subsequent bid for the senate or any other elective political office.

Cummings made the disclosure Wednesday, September 30, when he appeared on a local radio station in Monrovia.

He outlined his political plans, and the direction of the ANC ahead of the 2029 presidential, and legislative elections.

Although he remains a staunch member of the newly formed opposition bloc Cummings told his audience that his political ambition centered on the presidency, he does not intend to remain in electoral politics indefinitely.

He adds: “Should I fail to secure the presidency in 2029, I will leave electoral politics, and return my attention to the private sector.”

The announcement effectively places a deadline on Cummings’ presidential ambitions, while also ruling out a fallback political position.

For that reason, he will not seek a senate seat, or another elective position if his presidential bid does not succeed.

Cummings’ decision comes against the backdrop of his previous presidential contests.

The National Elections Commission’s official results showed how he received 7.21 percent of the vote in 2017, while he received 1.61 percent in the 2023 presidential election.

The figures also raise questions about the political challenge facing the ANC as it prepares for another presidential contest.

While Cummings remains a recognized opposition figure, his electoral performance has varied significantly between the two previous elections, making the party’s strategy, and potential alliances important issues ahead of 2029.
