Deputy Presidential Affairs Minister for Administration, Bill McGill Jones, has faced growing public criticism from residents in Suakoko District, Bong County.

Jones criticism came about when he accused past leaders of having failed to deliver development, when critics demanded that he account for the slow progress of a major project he launched in his own hometown. Residents and community observers say, Jones’ criticism of previous leaders, has exposed a contradiction in his own development record.

They pointed to the stalled construction of the multipurpose youth center in Sergeant Kollie Town (SKT), a project he previously supported.

Critics argue that before questioning the achievements of others, Jones should provide answers about the status of a project that was presented as a major symbol of development for SKT and surrounding communities. The project was officially launched in March, 2025, during a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Bong County Senator Prince Kermue Moye, government officials and community leaders.

The facility was described as a “historic investment” that would transform community activities.

It was expected to provide space for meetings, youth programs and social gatherings.

However, more than a year after the ceremony, the project has failed to meet public expectations, with progress remaining limited.

The delay has triggered frustration among some of the inhabitants, who believe the project has become another example of ‘unfulfilled promises made to rural communities.’

Jones, who identifies SKT as his hometown, previously stated that the facility was intended to serve the people and should not be politicized.

He said, the multipurpose center would provide residents with a comfortable gathering place and improve community engagement. But critics now say, Jones own words have come back to challenge him, arguing that leadership should be measured by completed projects rather than public statements. They accused Jones of applying a double standard by criticizing former leaders for development shortcomings while failing to provide updates on a project connected to his own name and influence.

Bill McGill Jones has not yet responded to the allegations made against him. As of press time late last night, Jones has remained silent regarding the claims, and no official statement has been issued to clarify his position, or address the concerns raised.
