Former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor says, the opposition Congress for Democracy Change (CDC) -led government under former President George Weah, delivered more developments to Bong County than the current Unity Party (UP) administration has done so far.

‎Madam Taylor made the statement on Monday, August 10, during a press conference in Gbarnga, while responding to recent comments Senator Prince Moye made against the opposition.

Moye reportedly said, Bong County did not significantly benefit under the Weah administration.

On the contrary, Madam Taylor said, “Bong County enjoyed unprecedented political influence under the CDC government, with me as Vice President, and Moye as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.”

‎Madam Taylor cited the construction of the Gbarnga-Salayea Road, the pavement of Gbarnga streets, construction of the Bong Model School, the Regional Cash Hub of the Central Bank of Liberia, the Jungle Energy Power electricity project, upgrade of Bong County Technical College, water and health facilities, and completion of the new Gbarnga Market.

She also cited increased government support to Phebe Hospital, scholarships, employment opportunities, doctors’ salary increases, and microcredit support for women.

‎Madam Taylor: “The vice presidency, and deputy speakership, gave Bong County a rare opportunity to influence national decisions, and attract developments.”

She noted that more could have been achieved if she, and Moye had worked together, but instead, the then deputy speaker was focused on efforts to remove the CDC-led government from power.

‎Taylor maintained how the political differences should not be allowed to rewrite the county’s development record, insisting that “the facts will speak louder than an opinion.”
