Boakai Storm Hits Nimba:

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai recent dismissals affected three top officials from Nimba County.

The decisions have left Nimbains feeling uneasiness in the Unity Party (UP)-led administration, specifically, the removal of Wilmot Paye from the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

Another person, whose dismissal has remained on the low level, but being discussed in the county, is Dr. Lama Wonkeryor, from the National Commission on Higher Education.

Wonkeryor has been replaced by Dr. Cecelia Cassell as Executive Director of the Commission.

One person, whose dismissal was quietly talked about was the Director-General of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, Anthony K. Souh.

unlike Dr. Wonkeryor, Souh and Paye, were removed for “Administrative reasons.”

Though “Administrative reasons” are abstruse, some Nimbaians are of the opinions that the trios were targeted for “political differences, and their uncompromising stands” against the ruling establishment.

For Mr. Paye, a female lawyer remarked: “I know him to be strict on matters apparently against country’s future. He developed the ministry in a relative short period of time, but to be dismissed, I wondered.”

Pres. Boakai on Monday, October 27, dismissed Wilmot Paye in what the Executive Mansion said, was “sweeping changes across several government ministries and agencies.”

Paye removal was said to be part of government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, enhance institutional effectiveness, and ensure accountability in public service.

Pres. Boakai’s latest decisions comprised dismissals, new nominations, and reassignments, which a release said, were in line with the ARREST Agenda, which prioritizes accountability, reconciliation, recovery, education, stability, and transformation.

The statement confirmed the appointment of Richard Matenokay Tingban, a Nimbaian, as the new Minister of Mines and Energy, replacing Mr. Paye.

Tingban, a former represented, contested a senator bye-election, but lost to Samuel Kogar.

At the National Commission on Higher Education, Dr. Cecelia Cassell was appointed Executive Director in the place of Dr. Wonkeryor.

Meanwhile, Pres. Boakai has named Mr. Nyan Mantein, a Nimbaian, as Chairman of the Board of the Liberia Airport Authority, though Mr. Mantein holds no cabinet position, while Nelsco A. Wolo,(Nimba) becomes Deputy Immigration Commissioner-General for Administration.

Wolo was previously dismissed from the National Security Agency as Assistant director for Operations.
