President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has launched another major chapter in the infrastructure development agenda when he broke ground for the construction of the Salayea–Koina and Zorzor–Yeala road corridors in Lofa County.
The latest development, which was held on Tuesday, July 28, reinforces Boakai administration’s commitment to expand road connectivity, and drive economic growth.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of two strategic road projects expected to improve transportation, strengthen commerce, and open new opportunities for residents in one of key agricultural regions.
The Minister of Public Works, Roland Layfette Giddings, at the ceremony, said the Salayea–Koina corridor will cover approximately 50 kilometers, while the Zorzor–Yeala road corridor will stretch about six kilometers.
Giddings described the projects as critical investments that will improve access between communities, and support long-term national development.
Better roads, Giddings said, will significantly reduce travel time, ease the movement of people and goods, expand market access for farmers, and stimulate economic activities.
He noted that improved infrastructure remains one of government’s strongest tools to reduce poverty, and promote inclusive development.
Giddings also praised development partners for their continued support, adding that their collaboration remains vital to address the infrastructure challenges.
He said, the partnership has enabled the government to undertake major road projects to connect underserved communities, and boost regional development.

The launch of the Salayea–Koina and Zorzor–Yeala road projects forms part of the government’s effort to modernize transportation network, and improve connectivity.
Officials believe the projects will strengthen links between Lofa County, and neighboring counties while enhancing regional trade and mobility.
Locals welcomed the groundbreaking development. They expressed optimism that the new roads will improve livelihoods, support local businesses, and accelerate development in communities that have long struggled with poor road conditions.
