President Joseph NyumaBoakai, Sr., has officially dedicated the Bopolu Mini-Water Supply System—the first-ever pipe-borne water system in the City’s history. The newly completed system, fully funded by the Government of Liberia and implemented by the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), marks a significant achievement under the ARREST Agenda as a landmark step toward improving access to clean and safe drinking water.  The initiative aims to transform rural communities from reliance on hand pumps and unsafe water sources to modern, sustainable infrastructure that enhances public health and quality of life. Speaking at the dedication ceremony, President Boakai underscored the Government’s commitment to ensuring safe drinking water as a basic right, not a privilege. He noted that for decades, residents of Bopolu had been forced to walk long distances and rely on unsafe water sources, exposing them to waterborne diseases.  With the launch of the new water system, households and businesses within the pipe network range can now register for connections to clean water, improving health, sanitation, and overall well-being. “The completion of this Project is a major step toward addressing long-standing water challenges in Bopolu,” President Boakai stated. “This is not just about convenience—it is about improving lives, reducing disease, and ensuring that women and children no longer have to bear the burden of fetching water from unsafe sources,” he added.

The President extended profound appreciation to the LWSC Leadership, the Gbarpolu County Legislative Caucus, and local authorities for their support in making the project a reality. He also assured citizens that this was just the beginning, as his Administration is committed to expanding clean water access across all counties. “As a government, we are determined to ensure that every Liberian—regardless of location—has access to safe drinking water,” President Boakai reaffirmed,” noting that “This water system belongs to the people of Bopolu, and I urge you to protect and maintain it, ensuring its sustainability for generations to come.” The Bopolu Mini-Water Supply System is expected to significantly reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases, alleviate economic burdens on families, and support local development efforts. The dedication ceremony was attended by senior government officials, local leaders, development partners, and residents of Gbarpolu County, all of whom celebrated this milestone achievement. President Boakai also made a brief stop at the Emirates Hospital Liberia where he interacted with Doctors, Nurses and Volunteer Staff.
