Boakai Commissions New Health Facility

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has commissioned the newly renovated maternity ward and triage unit at the government hospital in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.

The project, spearheaded and funded by First Lady Kartumu Yarta Boakai, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen maternal and child healthcare delivery in the country.

At a colorful dedication ceremony attended by Second Lady Synleseh Stephanie Dahn-Koung, AfDB President, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, senior government officials, local authorities, health workers, community leaders, and residents of Bomi County, Pres. Boakai hailed the First Lady’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of women and children through practical interventions in the health sector.

“This facility is not just a building,” Pres. Boakai remarked, adding: “It is a symbol of hope, care, and the value we place on every Liberian life, especially our mothers and the newborns. I commend the First Lady for her vision and compassion that have brought this critical improvement to the people of Bomi,” he noted.

The renovated maternity ward and triage unit are equipped with modern delivery beds, essential medical supplies, improved sanitation facilities, and enhanced space for patients care. The upgrades are expected to significantly reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates in the region, and ease pressure on surrounding health centers.

In her remarks, First Lady Boakai underscored the need to ensure that no woman dies while giving life.

“Too many of our women still face unsafe conditions when they come to deliver; this initiative is a small step toward making maternal health safer and more dignified for our mothers,” she said.

She then reaffirmed her commitment to partnering with communities and healthcare institutions in the country to continue supporting maternal and child health, especially in underserved counties.

The dedication ended with a tour of the facilities and an interaction with staff, who expressed gratitude for the transformation.

Local authorities praised the Boakai administration for prioritizing people-centered development.

The government said it remains committed to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring equitable access to quality services for all citizens.
