The people of Barrobo District are finally set to receive electricity, an initiative President Joseph Nyuma Boakai announced while referencing the Light Up South East Liberia (LUSE).
The President has given the green light to extend the transmission cable from Karloken to Barrobo, a project that would benefit rural communities.
Senior Manager at the Liberia Rural Electricity Corporation, Melive Gibson said, the project is expected to be completed soon, with collaboration from teams in Monrovia.
Local community residents, including youth, have welcomed the news. They have expressed gratitude to Pres. Boakai and international partners.
The Barrobo area has been without electricity for about 52 years, and the development is seen as a significant milestone.
Mr. Gibson assured the locals how Pres. Boakai has recommitted the government and partners to build Liberia for all, “not just those who voted for him.”
The Superintendent for Barrobo District, also expressed appreciation for the Pres. Boakai’s initiative, highlighting the long-standing neglect of the area.
Despite serving the country for 52 years, starting from Charles D.B. King’s time, the people of Barrobo have not received any benefits, only promises.
Pres. Boakai’s efforts to improve the energy sector are part of a broader initiative to increase electricity access, with goals to achieve 75 percent national electricity coverage by 2030.
