Aviation Technical Training for LAA Staff

The Liberia Airport Authority (LAA), in partnership with the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), has commenced a series of aviation technical trainings and capacity-building workshop for staff of the Roberts International Airport, with Joint Security and partners of the LAA.

This initiative, kicking off on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at the Royal Ambassador Hotel in Margibi County,  is aimed at enhancing the skills and competencies of LAA staff and paving the way for improved airport operations and customer service.

The training focused on various aspects of airport management, including public safety & security, airport terminal operations, emergency management, and human trafficking among others.

During the opening ceremony, LAA’s Managing Director, Jero H. Mends-Cole expressed his gratitude for the partnership and emphasized the importance of such initiative in transforming Liberia’s aviation sector.

“This training is a critical investment in the future of our airport and the broader aviation community in Liberia. By equipping our staff and other partners within the aviation sector with the necessary skills and knowledge, we are laying the groundwork for a more efficient and safer airport experience for all travelers,” Mends-Cole stated.

Upon taking over, the Managing Director assured employees of the Liberia Airport Authority that training will be prioritized under his administration, an initiative that will keep employees up to speed with aviation best practices and standards as being practiced by others across the globe.

Facilitators of the training include Ms. Jean Lennon, Arlene Roberts Barr and Joy Brown, Executive Deputy General Manager, Senior Airport Director, Special Events Manager, respectively of the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The sister-partnership between the Liberia Airport Authority and  the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is focused on capacity building in aviation, including training and talent development, as well as technical and managerial support.

Participants from various departments of the LAA, including operations, security, and customer service, lauded the LAA and the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) for facilitating the training.

“This has been an incredible opportunity for us to learn directly from the expertise of one of the world’s leading airports. We are eager to implement what we’ve learned to improve our operations”, Roland G. Taylor from the Security Department explained.

Also part of the training was representatives from the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, the Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and other aviation partners.
