Watch Forum Leader Detained

By Aaron B. Nemah

Officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) assigned in River Gee County have investigated a case of “juvenile maltreatment” that involved George Darlieh, the head of a local community watch forum.

Police said, the case came to light after a video exposed the “mistreatment of a minor” surfaced on social media, and was forwarded to authorities for verification.

Officers identified the voice in the video as Darlieh’s and subsequently invited him for questioning.

Darlieh reportedly admitted to handcuffing and filming the 13-year-old, Jaye Boye.

He claimed the juvenile had injured another child with a cutlass, but said, he did not report the incident to police before taking the action all by himself.

According to preliminary police findings, the incident occurred on May 5, 2026, in Pronoken, River Gee County.

The injured child, identified as CJ, sustained a leg injury after coming into contact with a machete, while the juvenile suspect was cutting banana but warned others to stay away.

Police has confirmed Darlieh’s detention while officers from the Women and Children Protection Section continue the investigation.

The injured child has meanwhile been treated at a local clinic in Pronoken.

LNP said, investigation was ongoing and urged the public to report crimes to proper authorities rather than taking action that would hinder justice.
