‘’No Lawmaker Is Your Jesus Christ’’ Rep. Flomo Tells Constituents

Grand Bassa Electoral District #4 Representative, Alfred Hezekiah Flomo, has issued a stern reminder to residents of his district, emphasizing that lawmakers should not be viewed as saviors. Speaking directly to his constituents, Rep. Flomo expressed frustration with the tendency of some residents to place unrealistic expectations on their elected officials. “That’s why you’re always giving lawmakers a hard time because you think the lawmaker is your Jesus Christ,” Flomo said during a recent public address in the wee district. His comments were met with mixed reactions, as some residents nodded in agreement, while others seemed taken aback by his blunt words. Rep. Flomo went on to clarify the role of lawmakers, noting that his primary responsibility is to create and pass laws that will improve the nation. “My responsibility is to make laws that will make this country better. Like some of the laws they made in the past—when someone kills, they will go to jail—that’s my job,” he emphasized. The lawmaker also touched on his duty to advocate on behalf of his constituents, particularly in liaising with the government to ensure that their needs are met. “Secondly, my job is to lobby with the government to get more things done,” Flomo stated, urging residents to understand the complexity of his role. Flomo’s comments appear to be a call for a more realistic understanding of the duties and limitations of elected officials, aiming to foster a more collaborative relationship between lawmakers and their constituents. As the conversation surrounding the expectations placed on politicians continues, Flomo’s message serves as a reminder that governance is a shared responsibility, requiring both lawmakers and citizens to work together for the greater good of the country.
