The Governing Unity Party has defended the performance of the Boakai administration while seeking a speedy conclusion of investigations into the recent seizure of suspected narcotics valued at nearly US$19 million at Roberts International Airport.

Speaking at a press conference at the party Headquarters on Broad Street on Friday, July 10, 2026, National Chairman Rev. Dr. Luther Tarpeh said the government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and protecting the interests of the Liberian people.

He maintained that the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai continues to make steady progress in addressing key national challenges.

Commenting on the ongoing drug investigation, the Unity Party Chairman described the interception of the suspected cocaine shipment as evidence that Liberia’s security institutions are becoming more effective in combating transnational organized crime.

The party chairman praised the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA), the Joint Security, and other state institutions for their role in intercepting the shipment.

The party insisted that everyone connected to the case would be investigated, regardless of political affiliation, financial status, or social influence.

It stressed that there would be “no sacred cows” and reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to working with international partners to combat narcotics trafficking and money laundering.

While commending the security agencies, the UP Chairman urged the Joint National Security Investigation Team to expedite its work, warning that unnecessary delays could weaken public confidence in the justice system.

Party officials said Liberians deserve timely answers and that anyone found responsible should face the full weight of the law.

Beyond the drug investigation, the party praised the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning for commencing salary payments to civil servants on July 2, 2026.

According to the party, the timely payment of salaries reflects improved fiscal discipline, strengthens household incomes, stimulates economic activity, and boosts confidence in government.

The Unity Party also commended the government’s management of the petroleum sector, noting that despite tensions in the Middle East and disruptions in global oil markets, Liberia has maintained a stable fuel supply while implementing measures that have contributed to lower pump prices.

On infrastructure, the party applauded President Boakai for breaking ground on the proposed four-lane highway connecting the Gabriel Tucker Bridge, the St. Paul Bridge, and Bo Waterside.

It said the project is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety, facilitate trade, and support economic growth.

The party further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to investing in young people and expanding development initiatives aimed at creating better opportunities for future generations.

The UP concluded by pledging to continue supporting the government’s achievements while openly identifying areas requiring improvement, insisting that the administration remains committed to delivering meaningful results for the Liberian people.
