Japan To Support Liberia’s Heath Sector

One of Japanese leading health facilities, the Shonan Kamakura General Hospital in Kanagawa, has pledged to help Liberia, mainly in the health sector.

 The hospital management, earlier, warmly welcomed President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and delegation in Kanagawa, Japan.

The ceremony marked Boakai and delegation official visit at the facility.

 The visit, according to a dispatch, was aimed at deepening health sector cooperation between Liberia and Japan.

The hospital management also pledged continued support to Liberia’s health sector.

In his welcome remark to Boakai and delegation, the hospital Executive Director Dr. Shuzo Kobayashi, highlighted the institution commitment to advance global medical partnerships.

According to the dispatch, the discussions centered on strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system through knowledge exchange, medical training, and the introduction of modern treatment technologies.

Pres. Boakai expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Kobayashi for the hospital previous assistance to Liberia, particularly its support to the dialysis center at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia. The center has provided dialysis machines. The President noted that the Japanese contribution has saved lives and expanded critical care in Liberia.

The President spoke of the need to build upon these achievements, adding that continuity of such initiatives is vital to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare in Liberia.

Boakai assured Dr. Kobayashi and his team of his government’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for sustained partnerships in health.

Pres. Boakai described the visit as a renewed chapter in Liberia–Japan health cooperation, underscoring that partnerships with world-class institutions like Shonan Kamakura General Hospital are essential to his administration’s vision of building a healthier, more resilient nation.

In response, Dr. Kobayashi highlighted the hospital willingness to continue working with Liberia in key areas, such as telemedicine, specialized treatment, staff training, and knowledge transfer, with a focus on ensuring long-term sustainability of medical interventions.
