Female Legislators Hold Consultations

Female Legislators, UN Women and Community Healthcare Initiative (CHI) have held a consultation to strengthen women in politics community awareness.

The exercise was initiated on Wednesday, April 15, in Bentol, Montserrado County.

It was predominately attended by female legislators to begin a US$1 million South-South funded initiative.

The initiative is to strengthen and empower women’s political participation in communities.

The program is led by UN Women and implemented through its partner, CHI.

Eleven female lawmakers from Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Grand Cape Mount, Margibi, Bong, Lofa, Grand Gedeh and Gbarpolu counties are together in the process.

Montserrado County District #1 Representative Rugie Yatu Barry, underscored the importance of increasing women’s participation in leadership, noting that inclusive governance remains critical to development.

Rep. Barry said, female legislators lobbied for the initiative since 2024, and is now being implemented under the IBSA-supported South-South cooperation framework.

It is geared towards expanding opportunities for women and to strengthen their representation in governance.

Meanwhile, Todee Statutory District Commissioner Izatta Flomo, lauded the

female lawmakers for spearheading the initiative.

Madam Flomo described the initiative as timely, and assured its desirous impact for gender disparities.
