Excavator Carrying Truck Crashed

A truck transporting an excavator has plunged into the Gen River in Geneken, Grand Kru County.

The incident occurred along the 75-kilometer highway connecting Barclayville and Pleebo, Maryland County.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the truck attempted to cross a section near the river, but reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle and the excavator to fall into the water.

“We heard a loud noise; we rushed to the scene only to find the truck and the excavator in the river,” one eyewitness told this newspaper.

Residents and travelers quickly gathered at the scene of the accident, but there were no confirmed reports of deaths, or injuries.

One account said, the excavator was destined for a mining site.

The incident underscored the growing presence of heavy-duty mining equipment in Grand Kru County without proper accountability.

The machine would bring the number of excavators operating in the county to more than 50 amid increased mining activities.

The rise in mining operations has been particularly noticeable in Forpoh, Bolloh, Trehn, Dougbo Community, Tutuken, and Buah, where excavators, and other heavy machinery have become common sights.

Meanwhile, residents have called on authorities to investigate the cause of the accident and assess any environmental impact resulting from the incident.

Authorities have yet to issue a formal statement on the accident.
