Tarpeh Yearns Gov’t Reshuffle

Unity Party (UP) National Chairman, J. Luther Tarpeh, has urged President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to immediately reshuffle his cabinet.

Tarpeh argued that changes in government are necessary to improve performances of the officials.

He made the call Tuesday, June 23, when he appeared on the state-run ELBC radio, where he discussed UP’s political direction; the concerns of party supporters, and government’s performance since taking office in 2024.

Tarpeh said, government must not be satisfied with the current level of performance, especially as citizens continue to demand visible improvements in public services, job opportunities and the overall country’s management.

He claimed that a cabinet reshuffle would allow Mr. Boakai to assess the effectiveness of officials, and replace those who may not have met public expectations.

Tarpeh: “The Boakai administration needs a stronger team of performers who can translate government’s promises into results. We desire one set of officials in government, not others who are on the bench, when good players can make the difference on the field.”

His statement appears to suggest that there are capable stalwarts, and other qualified Liberians, who are currently outside government, but could contribute significantly if given the opportunity to serve.

Tarpeh did not identify any specific ministry, agency or public official that he believes should be affected by the proposed reshuffle.

He also did not state whether his call was based on any internal assessment of government’s performance or whether the party had formally submitted recommendations to Pres. Boakai.

The call for a cabinet reshuffle comes at a time when some supporters of the ruling party have raised concerns about the pace of appointments and the distribution of positions.

Tarpeh urged disappointed partisans to remain patient.
