In the aftermath of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County gathering, many other politicians have converged in the county for the occasion.
They include the All Liberia Party (ALP), the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC), the Alternative National Congress (ANC) the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) and the National Patriotic Party (NPP).
As “major opposition bloc” CDC said, it is set to descend on Zwedru City to observe its “22nd Anniversary and Militant Month Celebration.”
The event, scheduled from June 23–27, 2026, under the theme: “Zwedru Rises: 2029 Victory is the Final Destination,” claimed to be the first major post-2023 gathering of the opposition leaders and parties since the last general elections.
CDC official invitation from the national chairman Janga Kowo, ANC political leader, Alexander Benedict Cummings (ABC) is to serve as Keynote Speaker on Saturday, June 27.
CDC said, the forum is designed as a “national political renewal and policy dialogue” focused on reflection, accountability, and democratic engagement.
Meanwhile, top opposition figures are expected in Zwedru for the anniversary. They include Benoni Urey, ALP political leader; Musa Bility, CMC political leader; and former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, NPP political leader.
Others are, Counsellor Kabineh Mohammed Ja’neh a prominent Liberian lawyer and former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, MPC political leader, Simeon Freeman.
Party officials, youth and women leaders, legislators, former public officials, civil society groups, and traditional authorities are also expected to attend.
The gathering, CDC said, intends to address “key national issues, and the way forward for the 2029 elections.”
CDC: “Liberia is at a critical crossroads amid public concern over governance, economic hardship, and declining confidence in state institutions. At a time when many Liberians are increasingly concerned about the direction of national governance…the CDC believes that opposition leaders have a responsibility to engage one another and the Liberian people in serious discussions about the country’s future.”
The Zwedru meeting marks the most significant public show and gathering of opposition unity since 2023, bringing together former rivals under one banner with 2029 in clear focus.
The CDC has again reiterated that there will be thousands of CDC members, officials and Party leaders in the City to reaffirm quest to return to power.
