The Ministry of Health (MoH) has officially commissioned 25 ambulances to enhance emergency response and referral services.
The ceremony, held on June 3, 2026, at the ministry’s head offices in Congo Town, was attended by government officials, development partners and representatives from county health teams.
Deputy Health Minister for Administration, Martha C. Morris, emphasized the significance of the investment in bolstering healthcare delivery.
Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Teyah Sackie Moore: “The commissioning of reflects our ongoing commitment to improve access to quality healthcare, particularly for those residing in remote and hard to reach communities.”
Dr. Moore highlighted the essential role of emergency transportation in saving lives, especially in rural communities.
“Timely transportation of patients is a vital aspect of an effective health system. These ambulances will help close the gaps in emergency care and referrals.”
Boye Johnson, Program Analyst for Governance and representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), stressed the importance of partnerships in advancing national health objectives.
“UNDP remains dedicated to support Liberia’s initiatives to build resilient health systems, and enhance health outcomes through strategic investments and collaboration.”
House Committee Chair on Health, Julie Fatorma Wiah, characterized the commissioning ceremony as a significant milestone for healthcare.
“This investment symbolizes hope for communities that often struggle to access emergency medical services. It is imperative that we ensure these ambulances are well-maintained and effectively utilized.”
