Residents of Samay Town in Electoral District # 3, Bong County, have appealed to government to urgently intervene in the worsening condition of a bridge.
The bridge, residents say, has become a serious obstacle to movement, and economic activity in the community.
Some of the locals say, the deteriorating condition of the bridge has left commuters, and other community members struggling to cross safely, raising concerns about what could happen if the structure continues to deteriorate without timely intervention.
For a rural community that depends heavily on farming, and local commerce, residents say, the condition of the bridge is more than an infrastructure problem, but a growing threat to livelihoods, and access to essential services.
They fear that a complete failure of the crossing could isolate parts of the community, making it more difficult for farmers to transport produce to markets, and for residents to reach schools, health facilities, and other services.
The appeal comes at a time when government repeatedly highlighted road, and bridge development as an important part of its infrastructure agenda.
Early this year, the Ministry of Public Works reported several roads, and bridge initiatives in Bong County, while government-backed agricultural programs also targeted rural roads intended to improve farmers’ access to markets.
Against that backdrop, residents of Samay Town have demanded that rural communities should not be left behind while major infrastructure projects are being announced elsewhere.
