Government representatives and Counselor Kunkunyon Teh, have pooled US$75,000 to construct the Younken Bridge in Tienpo District, River Gee County.
The US$60,000 government allocation plus Teh’s US$15,000 contribution is intended to replace a dangerous river crossing, which commuters have used over the years.
However, residents now question the project’s design and materials. Community members say, they expected a permanent concrete/steel structure, but current work has sparked concerns about timber quality and foundation depth.
Inhabitants observed that the Ministry of Public Works has not released any engineering specifications up to the time of this publication.
As concerns continued to intensify, residents have demanded transparency on budget breakdown and supervision.
The bridge serves as a key transit point for agricultural products and emergency medical cases in Fish Town.
Meanwhile, local authorities are yet to respond to residents’ concerns. The District Commissioner’s office, County Superintendent’s office, and Ministry of Public Works regional office in Fish Town, have not issued a public statement, hold a community briefing, or released technical document.
Cllr. Teh’s donated US$15,000 has intensified the demand.
“If a county leader can give from his personal pocket, government must give transparency. US$75,000 is serious money. We deserve answers before the next raining season,” said a Tienpo youth leader.
