Imam Urges Calm In Liberia/Guinea Border Dispute

In the heart of Maryland County, the Muslim community is holding its breath as tensions escalate between Liberia and Guinea over a disputed border in Foya District, Lofa County. Due to the escalating tension, Chief Imam Abdourahmane H. Bah, of Pleebo Central Mosque, voiced the community concerns, urging peace and stability between the two neighboring nations.

At the NTA office in Pleebo during Ramadan celebrations, Imam Bah spoke of the devastating impact of past civil wars on Liberia. “We should not return to those dark days,” he pleaded, highlighting the need for peaceful coexistence and responsible reporting.

The Imam’s message is clear: “the Muslim community is praying for calm, and journalists have a crucial role in preventing further escalation. As the situation unfolds, the community hope rest on diplomatic efforts and regional mediation.”

The Liberia-Guinea border dispute has sparked protests and raised concerns about cross-border trade and local communities in recent weeks.
