A young and visionary student of Bong County Technical College (BCTC), has called on the government to prioritize agriculture by increasing budgetary support for the sector.
Josiah Pailey described agriculture as a cornerstone for national development, food security and youth empowerment.
Pailey is currently studying agriculture in Israel under a government sponsored program.
He said, Liberian farmers will achieve remarkable productivity if provided with the same level of institutional support he has observed while in the foreign land.
“In Israel, farmers receive technical guidance, resources and continuous government’s support. Our farmers in Liberia deserve nothing less than an upgraded to system to boost the sector.”
Pailey said, agriculture must be treated as a technical and professional sector, free from political interference.
“Politics and agriculture cannot work together.”
He warned that political considerations have historically undermined long-term planning and growth in the sector.
He urged government to increase funding, training, and technical assistance into agriculture, highlighting the multiple benefits such investment would bring.
“Empowering farmers will reduce food imports, generate employment for our youth, and strengthen Liberia’s economy.”
Pailey’s call has already sparked conversations among policymakers, educators, and youth leaders, drawing attention to the need to place agriculture at the forefront of national development agenda.
“This is a moment of opportunity. With proper investment and vision, our farmers can transform the economy and ensure food security for every household,” Pailey added.
