Two former officers assigned with the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), have been arrested in Zorzor District, Lofa County for their alleged link with terrorist activities.
The suspects have been identified as Stanley A. Weagbah, and Abdullah O. Myers.
Joint security operatives arrested the duo following allegation that they are involved in activities, which community residents described as “terrorism-related.”
The men were arrested on Friday, October 2, by community members in Boi Town, Zorzor District.
According to information gathered, a single-barrel firearm was found in their possession at the time of their arrest.
The suspects were subsequently turned over to the Zorzor Magisterial Court for further legal proceedings.
Weagbah and Myers were among individuals, who were disqualified, and removed from the LDEA ongoing vetting process for the next batch of volunteers scheduled.
Circumstances surrounding their disqualification were not immediately clear.
Following their appearance before the court, they were advised to apply for a criminal procedure bond, but they failed to acquire a bail.
They have meanwhile incarcerated at the police station, where they remain detained pending further proceedings.
LDEA authorities are yet to publicly establish whether the suspects are involved in terrorism, or any other criminal activity. The allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial determination.
