15th Judicial Circuit Opens With 6 Cases On Docket

The 15^th Judicial Circuit Court officially opened its August Term on Monday, August 11, with the newly assigned Resident Circuit Judge, His Honor John Kennedy Peabody calling on judicial actors to uphold fairness, integrity, and the rule of law.

The formal opening was held in Fish Town. It brought together judges, lawyers, jurors, court staff, security officers, civil society leaders, and county authorities for the start of the term.

Court officials announced that the August Term will hear six cases in total, four criminal matters, two civil cases.

The cases are expected to address issues ranging from land disputes to felony offenses that have been pending.

While delivering his first official remarks since taking assignment in River Gee, Judge Peabody urged the entire justice sector to recommit to ethical standards.

”The court must continue to play an important role in sustaining peace, and unity among our people. Every Liberian, who walks through these doors deserves a fair, and impartial hearing, regardless of status, tribe, or political connection.”

Peabody outlined five pillars for the term, including honesty, neutrality, courage, fairness, and professionalism.

He described the judiciary as the “bedrock of every civilized nation.”

Peabody meanwhile, warned that public trust depends on credible, and independent rulings.

“Impartial, and credible judgments are essential to maintaining peace, stability, unity, and national development. Justice delayed is justice denied, and justice compromised is justice destroyed.”

Judge Peabody also acknowledged ongoing challenges with benefits for judicial workers, but urged staff to remain focused on service delivery while authorities address welfare concerns.
