The Student Unification Party at the University of Liberia has threatened an uneasy learning environment at all campuses of the UL if their online registration issues are not addressed. As evidence of their action, students of the campus- based political movement has staged a protest on the Fendell campus, which led to the disruption of normal academic activities. In a drive to draw national attention to their plight, the students also used broken chairs and sticks and blocked the main route leading to Kakata, Margibi County, thereby impeding the movement of vehicles for hours. Among other things, the angry students have called for the visitation of their online registration process, which has been a challenge since the reopening of school. According to them, the add and drop button, which permits them to go about their registration process is closed. Explaining to reporters on the issue, they stated that they were informed by the administration that the system has been infiltrated by some unknown people, something they are being affected by. Moreover, the administration, they narrated, told them that affected students should go to the office of enrollment or the CIC to have their issues addressed. But they argued that if over 20,000 students are affected by the same issue, will they follow the manual process in this current modern digital age? This, they indicated, is unacceptable. At the same time, the aggrieved students argued that such situation should be the responsibility of the administration to resolve in a timely manner, and form as such, they should not bear the pain for it. “We made several attempts to have this address but to no avail, as we speak, there is no clear calendar of event for this semester, we are confused so we are using this means to draw national attention in a move to have it addressed,” they added. “We went also to the President office but we were told that she is always busy or is on a video call,” they also added. Despite the introduction of the online registration process to help address the old- aged registration nightmare at the state- run university, the challenge still exist as thousands of students’ time continues to be wasted due to the continuous and countless disruptions of classes.
