The Regional Traffic Division of the Liberia National Police (LNP) said, they recorded an alarming heave in road accidents at an unprecedented rate.

The Region covers Bong, Lofa, and Nimba counties.

Regional Traffic Commander, Aaron Jacob Vesselee, said from January to October, 2025, his office has recorded over 100 road accidents, which claimed multiple lives, and left a number of people injured.

“The number of accidents we have witnessed are deeply concerning,” Vesselee said.

“Most of these cases are caused by reckless driving, and over-speeding, especially along the Monrovia–Ganta corridor. Too many families have lost loved ones.”

Of the accidents, Vesselee said, Bong County has recorded the highest number in the region, followed by Nimba County, which has reported seven deaths, and Lofa County, with six fatalities.

Despite repeated efforts to educate drivers through radio programs, and public awareness campaigns, Vesselee said, many motorists continue to ignore traffic safety rules, contributing to the growth in road accidents related crisis.

“We have tried to create awareness on safe driving. However, some drivers continue to disregard basic traffic rules, putting themselves and others in harm way.”

Meanwhile, the Regional Traffic Division has planned to intensify awareness campaigns in all affected three counties.

He said the campaign will focus on safe driving practices, adherence to speed limits, and respect for traffic laws.
