LIS Graduates 517 Officers
The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) has marked a significant milestone as 517 newly trained officers graduated from the Joseph Nyuma Boakai Academy in Foya, Lofa County. The graduating class comprises 139 females and 378 males, all of whom completed a rigorous six-week training program. Acting Commissioner General Elijah Rufus use the occasion to appreciate the government of Liberia for their continued support to the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS). “We commend the Government of Liberia for its unwavering support in ensuring the success of this training initiative,” said Rufus, noting that all necessary resources were provided by the government. He said upon graduation, the officers will be deployed to key border points and other critical sectors across the country. The training program emphasized general immigration operations, basic investigations, tactical skills, legal formalities, and law enforcement techniques.
Each officer underwent a transparent and merit-based selection process, including aptitude tests, medical evaluations, and intensive physical training. Attorney General of Liberia, delivering remarks on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, celebrated the graduates’ achievements. “President Boakai applauds the Liberia Immigration Service for this successful initiative and congratulates the graduates. He urges them to serve with integrity, dedication, and professionalism,” the Attorney General stated. The President’s message emphasized the significance of the academy, named in his honor, as a symbol of leadership and commitment to national development. “This institution will inspire future generations to uphold excellence in their service to Liberia,” he added. The graduates’ training prepares them not only for their roles as immigration officers but also as contributors to a safer Liberia. “Today’s theme, ‘LIS: Spirited, Rejuvenated to Serve,’ reflects our renewed commitment to safeguarding Liberia’s borders and ensuring national security,” Rufus noted. The administration pledged to prioritize the welfare of LIS personnel, including competitive salaries and benefits such as healthcare and insurance. Graduates were encouraged to maintain professionalism, resist corruption, and uphold the rule of law as they embark on their new careers. “This graduation is more than a ceremony; it is a cornerstone for the future of our national security,” the Attorney General remarked. “Each graduate represents hope, resilience, and a brighter future for Liberia.” As the officers prepare to take on their responsibilities, they are reminded that their service is vital to protecting Liberia’s sovereignty and promoting peace. “You are not just immigration officers; you are pillars of national stability,” the Attorney General concluded. The ceremony celebrates the LIS’s commitment to excellence and its role in shaping a secure and prosperous Liberia. Congratulations to the Class of 2024 for their remarkable achievements.
