Boakai Welcomes 1-3 Years U.S. Visa Extension
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has welcomed the decision of the United States Department of State to revise its visa reciprocity schedule for Liberia.
The visa period has been extended the validity period for certain nonimmigrant visas from 12 months (one year) to 36 months (three years).
In an official statement released on Wednesday, October 29 by the US State Department, the United States Government announced the extension of stay duration of various categories of visas for Liberians visiting the United States.
Under the new policy, effective immediately, Liberian applicants for B1 (Business), B2 (Tourism), and B1/B2 (Business/Tourism Combination) visas will now receive multiple-entry visas valid for three years, with no reciprocity fee attached, for those who qualify.
Pres. Boakai described the decision as “a clear demonstration of the strong, and enduring partnership between Liberia and the United States, grounded in mutual respect, shared democratic values, and a common vision for progress.”
The President commended the United States Government for this positive step, noting that it will significantly ease travel, promote business and investment opportunities, and deepen people-to-people ties between the two nations.
“This new arrangement reflects growing confidence in Liberia’s progress and global engagement,” the President said, noting: “It opens new doors for our citizens to explore educational, cultural, and economic opportunities, while strengthening our bilateral cooperation with the United States.”
Pres. Boakai highlighted his Administration’s efforts in advancing Liberia international relations, and ensuring that Liberians benefit from a more open, and inclusive global environment.
Pres. Boakai meanwhile welcomed this development, and expressed his country’s appreciation to the U.S. Government.
He furthered that this gesture will facilitate greater people-to-people connections, business exchanges, and tourism opportunities between the two countries.
In a related development, Foreign Minister, Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti, expressed that in driving the President Foreign Policy vision, she will continue to engage the U.S. Government, and other governments to further expand areas of mutual cooperation and benefits for Liberians abroad.
