UNDP, UL To Launch AI Master’s Program, Innovation Hub

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the University of Liberia (UL), have signed a Standard Letter of Agreement (SLA).

The latest development marks the beginning of a transformative partnership to advance innovation, technology and strategic development.

According to a release, this landmark collaboration will introduce a Master’s degree program in Artificial Intelligence (AI), designed to equip students with cutting-edge digital skills. Additionally, the partnership will establish an Innovation Center at UL’s Fendall Campus, expanding on the successful UNIPOD initiative to create a vibrant hub for creativity and technological advancement.

As part of the initiative, the 2025 Holiday Tech Camp will be launched to inspire and empower the next generation of tech leaders.

Future camps have also been planned to sustain momentum and broaden impact.

A five-year Strategic Plan and a comprehensive capacity enhancement needs assessment will be developed to strengthen UL’s faculty and student body in research, policy analysis and innovation.

At the signing ceremony, Dr. Layli Maparyan, UL President, expressed gratitude to UNDP for the collaboration.

Dr. Maparyan: “This collaboration opens a new chapter for innovation and engagement at the UL. I want to thank UNDP for its commitment and for seeing this vision through.”

UNDP Resident Representative, Aliou Mamadou Dia, spoke of the broader significance of the partnership, noting: “We are confident this initiative will make a significant impact, not only for the UL, but for the country as a whole.”

Mrs. Weade Kobah Boley, UL’s Vice President for Institutional Development, reaffirmed the university dedication.

Madam Boley: “We will make this dream a reality.”

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing education and innovation in the country.

By fostering talent and enhancing research capacity, UNDP and UL aim to position Liberia as a competitive force in the global technology arena.

The signing ceremony was attended by Stanley Kamara, UNDP Team Leader for Inclusive Governance and Public Institutions.
