WHEN LIBERIANS TOOK to the streets of Monrovia and its environs under the rain in August this year campaigning against the use of harmful substances, we sensed that the move was a wakeup call on national leaders to wage an all- out war against illicit drugs being peddled in the country.
WE CANNOT NEGATE the fact that staging the anti drug campaign in Monrovia under the theme ‘Say No To Drugs’ was wrong because the city remains the hotspot and den where drug traffickers reside to spread their tentacles across the country.
THE ANTI DRUG campaigners soaked under the August rain were solely agitated by the damage young children face nowadays everywhere in the country, who are now being called zogos.
WE TOTALLY SUPPORT the ‘Say No To Drugs’ campaign because our young citizens who should take over national leadership of this country are being lured into drug peddling thus damaging their future.
WE HASTEN TO use as a case study, the latest arrests by Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, of six young female drug dealers in their 20s and 30s who have been sent to court for prosecution.
NO WONDER WHY in street corners in urban areas, and even rural parts, insane young people are growing in number and threatening peace and stability by their unwarranted actions due to drug influence.
HOW BE IT, we laud the efforts of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency to weed out drug traffickers and halt the continuous imputation of illicit drugs into the country to safeguard the lives of our future leaders.
WE EQUALLY USE this medium to urge our leaders clothed with oversights not to scapegoat the conduit of imputation and distribution of these harmful substances against the interest of national security and citizens’ wellbeing.
