SG Fayia Boasts Of ‘Unimpeachable Evidence’

Solicitor General, Augustine Fayiah, has expressed government’s readiness to prosecute anyone, who was involved in the December 18, 2024, burning of the Capitol Building.

Fayiah: “Preliminary hearing favors the government and that the prosecutorial team is now conclusively drawing indictment against the defendants.”

Following the Monrovia City Court ruling in preliminary arguments of the arson case on Friday, June 13, 2025, Cllr. Fayiah told journalists that from the onset of the case, they have built a team that will not point a wrong finger behind the wrong person, adding: “This is why my team has carefully investigated the matter.”

“We must make sure that the investigation is very thorough to the extent that when we say you are the doer of the act, there should be nothing else.

“What we have done is that we are going after people, who are suspected to be the perpetrators of any offense to ensure the evidence is cogent and conclusive and must meet all the quality of prosecution,” Fayiah said.

He said the government will hold those who burnt the sacred house accountable, “because, the building holds the image of the country, and it is where laws and budgets are discussed and enacted for operations.”

“To burn that house,” he added: “is tantamount to bringing down the government. So, we are not taking the matter lightly, and this is why the evidence we compiled are not ordinary pieces of evidence, but the one that meets the test of prima facie. This is why the judge ruled.”

“You saw the judge’s ruling, the ruling is well-informed, and we are going to follow; in fact, what you are seeing is more. We have both local and international investigators,” Cllr. Fayiah revealed.

He said, as the matter is being transferred to Criminal Court ‘A,’ passing the stage of preliminary hearing, they will in any subsequent period conclude the indictment and add more ingredients needed to be inculcated.

Monrovia City Court, on Friday, June 13, denied defendant lawyers’ plea to oust the charges against Reps. J. Fonati Koffa, Jacob Debee, Dixon Seboe, and Abu Kamara, paving the way for the matter to proceed further, thereby transferring it to Criminal Court ‘A’ for full swing.
