River Gee Suffers ‘Mysterious Deaths’

Panic and grief have swept through Country Town Community after a second unidentified body was recovered from Neezenmhn Creek in just one week.

The situation has intensified demands for urgent action from the Liberia National Police (LNP) assigned in the county and local authorities.

The latest body; an unidentified man, believed to be in his early 40s, was found floating face down in a creek near the county capital Fish Town, during the early hours of Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

“I became frightened and rushed home to alert other community members,” said a 26-year-old, Prince Doe, who discovered the remains around 7:15 a.m. while heading into a nearby bush.

River Gee County Coroner Jerry Kear, the Fish Town City Authorities, and the community chairman, responded and retrieved the remains.

In an attempt to identify the deceased, authorities placed the body on public display for several hours.

No relatives or residents came forward to claim it. Due to it decayed condition, identification proved difficult. It was later buried near the creek.

The discovery comes just five days after the body of a newborn baby boy was found floating in the same creek on Friday, June 12, 2026.

That infant was spotted by young men who wash motorcycles at the waterway.

The creek sits only a short distance from Fish Town’s principal healthcare facility, raising more questions among residents.

No family has reported a missing newborn, leaving the infant’s death shrouded in mystery.

Residents say, the two unidentified deaths in the same location within one week is “unacceptable.”

”This situation is becoming very disturbing in Fish-Town. It is a serious matter that requires the immediate attention of the relevant authorities,” said Jestina Quayee, an elderly resident of Bassa Community, who visited the scene.

“Just last Friday, a young child was reportedly discovered in this same creek, and now the body of a fully grown man has been found. We appeal to the authorities and our community leaders to conduct a thorough investigation and determine what has happened. We deserve answers and want assurance that this matter will be taken seriously.”

Meanwhile, authorities have not released the identity of the adult male, nor announced causes of death for either the man or the newborn. Police have not said whether foul play is suspected in either case.

The LNP, health authorities, and local government officials face mounting pressure from Country Town and Supergarrie communities to launch comprehensive investigations, establish identities, and determine if the two deaths are connected.
