The Office of Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, has rejected allegations circulating on social media that the Vice President played a role in undermining the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) anniversary celebration in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 23, the VP Office described the claims as “inaccurate and without basis.”
The statement clarified that Koung had no involvement in the planning, organization, or execution of CDC’s anniversary activities.
The statement urged the opposition party to focus on its internal organizational matters rather than attributing logistical difficulties or attendance concerns to VP Koung.
“Planning and execution of party activities rest with the party itself, and the VP was not involved in decisions affecting turnout or program delivery.”
The Office further emphasized VP Koung’s commitment to democratic principles and constitutional freedoms, including the rights of political parties, and citizens to freely assemble and participate in political activities.
Koung, the statement said, remains focused on supporting President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration in advancing good governance, economic growth, and national development.
“As Vice President, he serves all Liberians, and is focused on supporting Pres. Boakai’s agenda to advance good governance, economic opportunity, and national development.”
The Office said, Koung’s responsibilities are guided by the mandate the Liberians voters entrusted to him rather than partisan political disputes.
Despite the controversy, VP’s Office extended best wishes to the CDC for a successful anniversary celebration, and called on all political actors to conduct their activities peacefully and responsibly.
The statement meanwhile, called for unity and collective efforts to preserve peace, strengthen democratic institutions, and promote prosperity for current and future generations.
